Review

Well once again my household disagrees with the consensus in regards to a movie. This project received abysmal rotten tomatoes reviews. We were grateful to see another take at Roald Dahl’s story. We had recently seen the Henson company production. It didn’t seem to have the same budget and quality that their other films had.

Dahl (Mathilda, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, James & the Giant Peach) deserves to have his stories given proper treatment. Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump) did just that.

A young boy experiences a devastating tragedy and is taken in by his grandmother. She is not only a religious woman she is well aware of the dark forces that gleefully take advantage of the innocent.

They unwittingly take refuge in a resort that is hosting an international summit of witches. Anne Hathaway plays the Head witch with delightful madness. The boy and his Grandmother discover the witches’ plot and have to thwart it while the witches are gathered at the resort.

My only warning to parents is the look of the witches when they are in their true form is pretty frightening. I would say it might be too much for kids under 7 or 8.
