This is a book of lies. No one is what they seem. And as such, I had a really hard time liking the characters in this book. Honestly, they were all a little unhinged. But that was a good thing in this case because you never really knew who to believe and who to believe in.

The story goes between Charlotte and Elle, both with other motives, and neither with enough backstory to really allow the reader to dig in and understand. And the ending was very apparent to me, mostly because the facts were pretty much right in front of you if you were paying attention.

BUT – I will say that it kept me reading right along. I had to get to the end and finish because I NEEDED TO KNOW. That’s why I am giving this book 3 stars. It was written in such a way that the reader is compelled to finish.

Small Summary:

Charlotte Coburn has a tragically dark past. But she’s safe now. She lives in a gated community, protected from danger. When teenager Elle knocks at her door looking for shelter during a particularly severe storm, the woman can’t help but think how lucky Elle’s been to have found someone as friendly as her. Except Elle chose her door on purpose…

She knows all about Charlotte’s secrets because they ruined her family and her life. And it is time that everyone else knew. But Charlotte’s past has left a dark void in her life, so she is concocting her own vicious plan, convinced that Elle can help fill that void.
