The Review

The Title/Cover Draw:

  • This is my third TJR book and it was recommended to me by a member of the book club I am in.

💜 What I liked:

  • The way this book was written was perfect. It’s told from the points of view of all involved like a documentary, portraying the story of the band doing albums and their tour. The characters are vibrant and complex, as is usual with Taylor Jenkins Reid books. Also there is an appearance by Mick Rivas (who appears in TJR’s upcoming book Malibu Rising which I also reviewed earlier this year).

😱 What I didn’t like:

  • There were a few times in the middle where the scenes were a little slow, but because of the narration style, it was not boring at all.

💁‍♀️ The Characters:

  • The Six makes up Billy, Graham, Karen, Pete, Warren, and Eddie with Daisy Jones joining up to make seven.

🚦 The Ending:

  • There was at least one thing I didn’t see coming!

💬 The Narrator:

  • While I didn’t listen to the ebook, @onetruehazard is and it is a full cast with lots of celebrity narrators.

💭 Consider if you like:

  • You like historical fiction and music.

All thoughts and opinions are my own.

📘 Summary:

A gripping novel about the whirlwind rise of an iconic 1970s rock group and their beautiful lead singer, revealing the mystery behind their infamous break up.

Everyone knows Daisy Jones & The Six, but nobody knows the real reason why they split at the absolute height of their popularity…until now.

Daisy is a girl coming of age in L.A. in the late sixties, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go-Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s twenty, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things.

Another band getting noticed is The Six, led by the brooding Billy Dunne. On the eve of their first tour, his girlfriend Camila finds out she’s pregnant, and with the pressure of impending fatherhood and fame, Billy goes a little wild on the road.

Daisy and Billy cross paths when a producer realizes the key to supercharged success is to put the two together. What happens next will become the stuff of legend.

The making of that legend is chronicled in this riveting and unforgettable novel, written as an oral history of one of the biggest bands of the seventies. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a talented writer who takes her work to a new level with Daisy Jones & The Six, brilliantly capturing a place and time in an utterly distinctive voice.
