Panda Planner Review _ Zainey Laney

I have been using a variety of Planners: Kikki K, Mambi, Erin Condren. Each has a specific purpose and organization method. Panda Planner is a different approach. First off, it comes with a web address so you can sign up to receive videos on productivity. This is good if you are not sure the best way to use the planner.

The planner itself is divided into 3 sections, Monthly, Weekly, and Daily. The monthly section has space for each day in the month, a side section for notes, and a section at the bottom. In that section, you can plan you goals and how you will succeed. There is also a space for reviewing how you succeeded at your goals. There is also a line at the top to put your habit and focus for the month. There are only enough for 6 months of information so to me this is not as good because you will have to purchase another one of these in 6 months if you like to use it.

Week view Panda Planner _ Zainey Laney

The Weekly section has a variety of different sections. You can use these to record Bog Wins, How to Improve, Things I will do to Make this week great, I’m looking forward to, Habits I am focusing on developing, Education/ Mastery, Affirmation, top goals this week, and 4 big spaces for listing all your projects. This really gets into the depth of planning specifically. There are enough for 20 weeks, so you won’t have enough weekly spots to fill what you would get to match the 6 months in the previous section. To me this is definitely a drawback as there should be 4 more weeks.

Day View Panda Planner _ Zainey Laney

Lastly is the daily section. Here you can track what you are grateful for, looking to why it will be great, affirmations, focus, exercise, priorities, schedule, tasks, notes, and a space where you can review the days wins and improvements. I like how detailed this section is, but I am not sure I could use every section everyday. From the amount of pages, there seems to be enough daily entries for 2 and a half months. For me, this is not enough because in order to get into a habit, you should do it for 28 days. However, this is good for having the ability to do it a few times a week if you want it for that.

In order to keep track of the sections, there are ribbons to place where your leave off. I think this is a great idea instead of tabs! The leather book is held closed with an elastic band and it is the perfect size to fit in your purse or bag.

Overall, I really like the concept of this planner, It has options for everything you may want to do, and keep track of. I like the positivity of it as well. I realize that this planner would have to be huge in order to make every section have enough for 6 months, but that might be a good thing. It seems like almost a mishap that there are not enough pages in it.

Return to Robinson Island by TJ Hoisington _ Zainey Laney

I was recently given the opportunity to read this book, the sequel to Johann David Wyss‘s Swiss Family Robinson. The book takes place in the future, after Ernst has left the island to join the Navy, Fritz has started a family, and Francis has grown to be very skilled in animal husbandry and hunting.

After serving on the seas for a few years, Ernst takes some time off and goes back to the island for a visit, taking his friend John. While there the men discover pirate treasure, but really have no use for it on the island. Ernst takes a few pieces back to the mainland for some sound, yet discreet advice. But sinister forces are afoot, and this discovery threatens the island and the Robinson family.

This book is a very interesting read, especially if you have read the original story, or seen the movie. The description of the innovative ways used to live on the island has always fascinated me. And this story definitely does continue where the other leaves off, making a thrilling and fun ride to the end!

Return to Robinson Island is available on AMAZON in kindle, and hardcover formats. Also available on Google Play. Check out more on the website: https://www.swissfamilyreturns.com

Press Summary:

Inspired by the “original” Swiss Family Robinson book written in 1812 by Johann David Wyss, Return to Robinson Island is a continuation of the adventures of the Robinson family fifteen years after their famous shipwreck.
Return to Robinson Island is an entertaining, action-packed adventure story that has a thread of romance weaved throughout. It takes place fifteen years after the Robinson Family’s famous shipwreck on a remote island in the East Indies. The story highlights Ernest Robinson, who is now twenty-seven years old, engaged to be married, and is a 1st Lieutenant in the British Royal Navy. Ernest has distinguished himself as a fearless fighter, respected leader, God-fearing man, and loyal friend. However, his loyalty is tested when his commanding officer, Captain Charlie, is court-martialed on war crimes and Ernest has no choice but to tell the truth even if his testimony sends his former captain to prison.
When reports reach England that a vast treasure trove has been found on Robinson Island, Ernest and his family find themselves in mortal danger when Captain Charlie vows to retrieve the treasure for himself and wreak revenge on the entire Robinson family. Will the Robinson Family survive the attack?
Will Ernest ever see his fiancée again? One thing is certain: they won’t give up the island – or their lives – without a fight!

Whisper If you Need Me by Dina Silver _ Zainey Laney

It’s Novel Nerd!

It’s not monday but I have a special book to share with you today! “Whisper If you need me” is a story about Julia. 5 years previously her mother mysteries left and Julia still does not know why. Now, at 16, Julia is sent to camp by her father and step mother. While there, she meets Jack, explores what it means to grow up, and how to deal with the past in her life.

Whisper If you need me is a very nice read. I felt like it was fast and pulled me in. This is definitely in the chic-lit genre. While I liked the story itself, I felt like the ages of the main characters were a little young. The setting of the camp is definitely idyllic and I could see many people being introspective there. However, the relationship to me was not totally realistic.  As someone who has worked at camps, if you were involved with a camper, you were a goner. However, the story itself is definitely worth the read.

Whisper If you need me is available on AMAZON in paperback, and kindle. Not available on Google Play at this time.

Release date: Oct 20

Press Summary:

A strong-willed yet vulnerable young beauty, Julia Pearl is sixteen years old when she’s sent away to summer camp for the first time. Julia’s father and stepmother are convinced that time away from home will be good for Julia, hoping it will restore the confidence she lost when her mother disappeared five years earlier. Released from the emotional constraints of her new family and the ugly reputation her mother left behind, Julia finds herself reluctantly tossed into the free-spirited and often drama-infused world of overnight camp—where she quickly falls for an intensely charismatic counselor named Jack Dempsey, a nineteen-year-old college student who will prove to save her life in more ways than one. Rich with humor and poignancy, Whisper If You Need Me is a timeless story that will remind readers of the strength of friendship, the unwavering devotion of family, and ultimately, the power of young love.

Sleauths _ Zainey Laney

As a celebration of October, the Month of Two Birthdays around our household, we managed to wrangle a few seats over at the I-Drive area’s famous Sleuths Dinner Theater. I-Drive is well known for the sheer number of dinner theater concepts that have sprung up around there, and we have seen most of them. Medieval Times, Arabian Nights, and Pirates come to mind. They all run off a similar formula. Gather everyone together in a waiting area/bar/gift shop until show time, then wrangle them into the show area and give them chunks of the show while they eat their dinner.

Sleauths Gift Shop _ Zainey Laney

Sleuths is the same kind of concept, but instead of a high-action stunt show in a massive amphitheater, you have a more intimate theater gathered near a small stage. The show is, as the name would suggest, a mystery for the audience to solve. There are many different shows available at Sleuths, so even if you go multiple times, you’ll get a different experience. Because of the smaller theater, and the type of show that it is, much of the performance is not only interactive with the audience, but improvised a bit.
Sleauths Bar _ Zainey Laney
We enjoyed the show. It was lots of fun. I don’t really want to ruin the show for you, so I won’t really get into the nitty-gritty details, but ours was a murder mystery at the Squire’s Inn in England. The characters were off the wall, and the actors really got into them. After seeing things unfold up until the murder, we received the main portion of the meal. After that, we got to question the suspects, which was lots of fun. This is where the actors could really show off their improv skills, as they would not only respond entirely in character, but could easily segue weird questions into the pre-scripted, multi-character scenes that would reveal content. Then, we got dessert, followed by accusations.
Sleuths Stage _ Zainey Laney
This was where the show fell a bit flat. As someone who was raised watching Poirot and other Agatha Christie mysteries on PBS, the final result was… unsatisfying. As the only piece of definite evidence as to whodunnit was left until the end to be revealed, it could literally be ANY of the suspects right up until the reveal. The suspects all have a motive, and no alibi. It feels as if they could change the ending right there with a quick whisper behind stage and nobody would be the wiser. That grinds my gears. This could have just been the Squire’s Inn story that did this, but I have no way of knowing.
So, after a full discussion of the show, lets move on to the consumables. The bar has a full assortment of drinks, and several house drinks that looked very good. There was a chocolate mint drink that was very tasty. Once you get into the show, you have unlimited soda, beer, and wine. The lasagna was much better than the food we’ve had at other dinner theaters, and Vince’s steak seemed to meet his expectations. Deserts were a bit of a let down, as the chocolate cake was dry and dense.
Sleuths Dinner _ Zainey Laney
All in all, Sleuth’s is a fun experience, but I would only go again if I could get a discount. At the price, its food is in need of a little upgrade. The show was entertaining, and a good way to spend an evening with friends. I would like to see if all the other shows have the same lackluster ending, but take this bit of advice: think of this less as a mystery show, and more of a comedy. You’ll enjoy it better.

I recently got a chance to use a product I had been wanting to try for awhile.

Makeup Remover Cloth _ Zainey Laney

Many people in the beauty community has raved about this product or a similar one. The basic idea is to use the product to wipe the makeup off your skin without washing. I was really skeptical because in order to get off my makeup, I need to use makeup remover, argan oil, and a variety of other things. Still my waterproof mascara stays until the morning no matter what I do.

Let me tell you, this product actually worked. No joke, you just rub it across your face and it takes it off! The simply wash the product and you are good to go again. The product says you can use it thousands of times before it is done. I have not used it that many time so I can not voucher for that. But it does work!

The Good Neighbor by AJ Banner _ Zainey Laney

The Good Neighbor by A.J. Banner is classified under the suspense thriller genre. I reminded me a lot of The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins, but shorter. If you are a fan of the type of books that keep you guessing, this will be up your alley.

Sarah lives a perfect life as a small town writer in beautiful Washington, and is still a newlywed to Dr. Johnny. However, one night a fire reveals the dangers of living in a small town.

Like I said, this book was a really fast read both in length and how it keeps you reading. My complaint is that the characters were not written as complex and deep enough as they could have been. While I did kind of root for the heroine, I did not fall in love with the protanganist enough to want to read a sequel. However, if you are looking for a book to read for enjoyment, this is an excellent read.

The Good Neighbor is available on AMAZON in paperbakc, audible, MP3 CD, and ebook formats. Not available on Google Play at this time.

Release date: September 1

Press Summary:

Named by Harper’s Bazaar as a book that could be the next Gone Girl.

From a phenomenal new voice in suspense fiction comes a book that will forever change the way you look at the people closest to you…

Shadow Cove, Washington, is the kind of town everyone dreams about—quaint streets, lush forests, good neighbors. That’s what Sarah thinks as she settles into life with her new husband, Dr. Johnny McDonald. But all too soon she discovers an undercurrent of deception. And one October evening when Johnny is away, sudden tragedy destroys Sarah’s happiness.

Dazed and stricken with grief, she and Johnny begin to rebuild their shattered lives. And now for the swatches!

Revealed 3 Palette _ Zainey Laney

The selection of colors is interesting. I don’t really go for the redder or darker shades in the palette however, it does create some pretty cool combinations.

Revealed 3 First Row 5 _ Zainey Laney

The first five in the row would make some good blending shades. The last one on the right is very creamy and yet powdery at the same time. It swiped across my hand very easily and was the most pigmented.

Revealed 3 Palette Top Row Last 5 _ Zainey Laney

Of these colors, the gold was the most pigmented. I did also like the second one to the right as well for a crease color. It blended very well and stayed in place.

Revealed 3 Bottom Row first 5 _ Zainey Laney

The bottom row has some of my favorite colors in the palette. However the last 2 of this set blend directly into my skin. Honestly you can’t even see it on my hand but they are very creamy and great to blend out a darker shade. The 3rd shade was the hardest to blend out and I had to rub it many times to get that color. It also had gold glitter in it which I was not a fan of.

Revealed 3 Bottom Row Last 5 _ Zainey Laney

I love these colors the most. They are pigmented, creamy, and provide a really nice fall color look when used together. This alone is why I would buy this palette.

Overall this palette may not be for everyone, but it does have a nice selection of colors.

I was given the opportunity to review Andrea Bocelli’s new album, Cinema, which comes out on October 23. My husband, who is a musicphile (is that  a word?) listened with me and we both have some amazing feedback.

For me personally, I like all types of music (except maybe rap and hiphop, it’s just not my thing). If I had to pick a genre it would be soundtracks, both broadway and movies/tv. This album falls nicely into that category as it is all music from classic films.

Just to highlight some of the songs:

  • Maria (West Side Story)- This was a great way to start the album. It is upbeat and the arrangement is unusual. The song is done in all English which is not the case for most of the music on the album. Don’t let that scare you though, it still sounds amazing!
  • E Piu ti Penso (Once Upon A Time in America)- Andrea partners with Ariana Grande. I knew the girl has some pipes but good gracious that girl can sing! This is probably one of my favorite songs on the album and a good reason to give it a listen.
  • Brucia La Terra (The Godfather)- This was one of my husbands favorites. The orchestra is smooth and most of all, you feel like you are wisked away to Italy. Or at least New York.

There are a few others that we thought were great, but these are just some of the more interesting ones. If you love to be transported to another time, and orchestral music takes you away, this album just hits the spot. Like I said before, most of the music is not in English but the singing is amazing, and if you know the words in English, just sing along.

Here is a sneak peek of a song from his album:

Cinema includes music from West Side Story, Doctor Zhivago, The Godfather, Evita, Gladiator and many more! Andrea Bocelli is probably one of the world’s most famous tenor and recently sang for the Pope during her visit to America!

Bocelli said the following: “With the album ‘Cinema,’ I’m fulfilling a wish that I’ve harboured for decades. I’ve never made a secret of my dream of bringing to life a recording project associated with soundtracks, as I truly believe that it’s an exceptional artistic treasure trove.

On October 23, Verve Records will release Cinema. On November 27th, Andrea will perform on PBS, singing many of the songs from this album arranged by David Foster.

I hope you will love this album as much as I do! The album will be available on Itunes and Amazon.

Revealed 2 Palette _ Zainey Laney Revealed 2 Palette Open _ Zainey Laney

Check out the video of a look I created with this palette!

The swatches below will give you an up close look at the product!

Revealed 2 Palette Top Left _ Zainey Laney

The first 5 shadows on the top are the lightest. The first couple are beautiful and blend nicely. You can tell the 4th one is a little powdery but it is a beautiful color. There are so many great bases and highlighters here!

Revealed 2 Palette Top Right _ Zainey Laney

These are some more neutral tones. The last one on the right is gorgeous and I love using that on my lid over a darker color. I am telling you, it will change your life!

Revealed 2 Palette Bottom Left _ Zainey Laney

These are some of my most favorite in the palette and can be used for a dozen different combinations. They are the creamiest and look the best on everyone.

Revealed 2 Palette Bottom Right _ Zainey Laney

Lastly, these colors can be used to make an amazing smokey eye or as a shadow liner. The last one is probably the hardest to build up in the whole palette but it blends and mixes so amazing with the lighter colors that I don’t care about that.

Overall this palette is one of my favorites and I reach for it again and again. Do yourself a favor and splurge.
