Return to Robinson Island By TJ Hoisington Book Review

It’s Novel Nerd!

Return to Robinson Island by TJ Hoisington _ Zainey Laney

I was recently given the opportunity to read this book, the sequel to Johann David Wyss‘s Swiss Family Robinson. The book takes place in the future, after Ernst has left the island to join the Navy, Fritz has started a family, and Francis has grown to be very skilled in animal husbandry and hunting.

After serving on the seas for a few years, Ernst takes some time off and goes back to the island for a visit, taking his friend John. While there the men discover pirate treasure, but really have no use for it on the island. Ernst takes a few pieces back to the mainland for some sound, yet discreet advice. But sinister forces are afoot, and this discovery threatens the island and the Robinson family.

This book is a very interesting read, especially if you have read the original story, or seen the movie. The description of the innovative ways used to live on the island has always fascinated me. And this story definitely does continue where the other leaves off, making a thrilling and fun ride to the end!

Return to Robinson Island is available on AMAZON in kindle, and hardcover formats. Also available on Google Play. Check out more on the website: https://www.swissfamilyreturns.com

Press Summary:

Inspired by the “original” Swiss Family Robinson book written in 1812 by Johann David Wyss, Return to Robinson Island is a continuation of the adventures of the Robinson family fifteen years after their famous shipwreck.
Return to Robinson Island is an entertaining, action-packed adventure story that has a thread of romance weaved throughout. It takes place fifteen years after the Robinson Family’s famous shipwreck on a remote island in the East Indies. The story highlights Ernest Robinson, who is now twenty-seven years old, engaged to be married, and is a 1st Lieutenant in the British Royal Navy. Ernest has distinguished himself as a fearless fighter, respected leader, God-fearing man, and loyal friend. However, his loyalty is tested when his commanding officer, Captain Charlie, is court-martialed on war crimes and Ernest has no choice but to tell the truth even if his testimony sends his former captain to prison.
When reports reach England that a vast treasure trove has been found on Robinson Island, Ernest and his family find themselves in mortal danger when Captain Charlie vows to retrieve the treasure for himself and wreak revenge on the entire Robinson family. Will the Robinson Family survive the attack?
Will Ernest ever see his fiancée again? One thing is certain: they won’t give up the island – or their lives – without a fight!

Every Girl Gets Confused by Janice Thompson Book Review

It’s Novel Nerd!

Every Girl Gets Confused by Janice Thompson Book Review _ Zainey Laney

OK so I confess, the real reason I chose to review this book is because the cover is purple! Not really. So I started reading this book and realized that I had read books by her before. Janice Thompson has also written the “Weddings by Bella” and “Weddings by Design” . It looks like she likes this genre as this book is part of the “Brides with Style” series. I believe this book is the second in the series, and although I did not read the first, I may just go back because I liked it.

Katie works at a bridal shop and is dating the shop owners son, Brady, who is also a Maverick’s basketball player. Or he was, but he has been benched due to an injury. Katie is trying to balance love, work, and tough decisions in her life while helping Brady through his own life changing ones. The book is filled with lots of lively characters and an easy to read story. Plus there is also an element about Doris Day (I won’t spoil it, but it’s cute and makes me want to go watch more of her movies). Definitely one you don’t have to think about!

Every Girl Gets Confused is available on AMAZON in paperback, kindle, and hardcover formats. Also available on Google Play.

Release date: Oct 20

Press Summary:

How can she choose between the love she thought she lost and the love she stumbled upon in the aftermath?

Katie Fisher and Brady James may be a match made in heaven, but that doesn’t seem to guarantee them a happily ever after accompanied by angelic choirs. Katie’s almost-fiancé Casey is back in Fairfield, ready to rekindle their relationship. And there’s nothing Katie’s parents want more than for their small-town girl to leave Dallas and come home for good.

But can she really leave Brady behind? And will she ever be able to wear that gorgeous wedding dress she won?

Whisper if you need me by Dina SIlver Book Review

Whisper If you Need Me by Dina Silver _ Zainey Laney

It’s Novel Nerd!

It’s not monday but I have a special book to share with you today! “Whisper If you need me” is a story about Julia. 5 years previously her mother mysteries left and Julia still does not know why. Now, at 16, Julia is sent to camp by her father and step mother. While there, she meets Jack, explores what it means to grow up, and how to deal with the past in her life.

Whisper If you need me is a very nice read. I felt like it was fast and pulled me in. This is definitely in the chic-lit genre. While I liked the story itself, I felt like the ages of the main characters were a little young. The setting of the camp is definitely idyllic and I could see many people being introspective there. However, the relationship to me was not totally realistic.  As someone who has worked at camps, if you were involved with a camper, you were a goner. However, the story itself is definitely worth the read.

Whisper If you need me is available on AMAZON in paperback, and kindle. Not available on Google Play at this time.

Release date: Oct 20

Press Summary:

A strong-willed yet vulnerable young beauty, Julia Pearl is sixteen years old when she’s sent away to summer camp for the first time. Julia’s father and stepmother are convinced that time away from home will be good for Julia, hoping it will restore the confidence she lost when her mother disappeared five years earlier. Released from the emotional constraints of her new family and the ugly reputation her mother left behind, Julia finds herself reluctantly tossed into the free-spirited and often drama-infused world of overnight camp—where she quickly falls for an intensely charismatic counselor named Jack Dempsey, a nineteen-year-old college student who will prove to save her life in more ways than one. Rich with humor and poignancy, Whisper If You Need Me is a timeless story that will remind readers of the strength of friendship, the unwavering devotion of family, and ultimately, the power of young love.

Review of a 30-Day Guide to Bolder Blogging + Giveaway!

I was recently given the opportunity to review a workbook designed to help bloggers retain more views. This workbook was written by Stephanie Shar of the Loudmouth Lifestyle Blog. Want to win a copy? See below!

30 Day Guide to Bolder Blogging by Stephanie Shar_ Zainey Laney

Stephanie not only does workbooks, but also e-courses designed to help your blog or business. I was interested in this because while I have a pretty nice youtube following, my blog (at least on this site) is still fairly new. Mostly research is one of those things I am doing constantly to stay ahead of the game and find new techniques.

What I liked about this workbook, is that it breaks things down into very easy steps by day. It starts from the simplest tasks (such as page content) and moves to how to maintain you blog and make a community, not just money.

Every workbook I have seen on this has a different take, and this one is no different. I just really like how honest and simple she puts this information, and how easy it is to follow. Also her emphasis is on reaching people, not just how to make money without connections.

If you are interested in purchasing this workbook, you can HERE for $9. HOWEVER, if you want to get one for free, simply comment below with your blog (or business) link and say why you need help! You can enter until Nov 8!

Meet my September #ZaineyFriends (Part 2)

When you are part of social media, blogging, or a youtuber, it is very important to be a part of a community and to be sharing content besides your own. In the Geeks & Beauties Google Community that I run, we try very hard to support and encourage each other’s endeavors. One of the ways I personally do this is starting to highlight people people on my blog and youtube channel. Here is part 2 of 3 people who will be featured on my site during the month of September. Starting in October, this will happen weekly.

If you are interested in being featured on my blog or social media, make sure you join Geeks and Beauties and send me a message! (Or visit any of my social media above!)

Our first featured person is Lyn. Here is a little bit about herself:

Hi!  My name is Lyn and I am a proud wife and Mom to two boys.  I love reading and books are a huge passion for me. I also love talking about beauty and trying diy crafts with my family.  I have only been blogging a short time but am amazed at the feeling of connection and community.  I feel like it has given me a whole new social circle, and I am learning so much.
I am a huge nerd.  My husband and I bonded over our love of video games. Firefly and Star Wars.  If it’s sci-fi, I will probably enjoy it!
About my work:
I enjoy reviewing products both on my blog and on Amazon for review groups.  I have also been extremely lucky and had the opportunity to do several book reviews.  I am finding a new love for urban fantasy and discovering some great new science fiction authors!  I love learning about products and services that will enhance life for my family and myself, and am happy to talk about anything and everything I find innovative and helpful.  I would love to connect with other Moms, bloggers, geeks and really anyone out there!
For a sample of Lyn’s BLOG, where she attempts to make ICE CHALK from a Pinterest post.
One of Lyn’s videos will be featured on the sidebar on the right for the month of September. Here is a youtube video to get you started!

Meet my September #ZaineyFriends (Part 1)

Dale of "Beauty from the Empty Nest" featured as a September #ZaineyFriend _ Zainey Laney

I am a wife and mother (my son is just starting his second year of college and my daughter is a sophomore in high school) who adores beauty, makeup, and positive ways of living life.  My passion for makeup is not new but is just now being allowed to voice itself on my YouTube channel (BeautyintheEmptyNest) and blog (http://BeautyintheEmptyNest.com).  I am enjoying this new adventure that was driven by a void I observed in the social media driven beauty world – very few of our beauty gurus were women of a mature age.  This is important because what worked for me in my early 20’s and then 30’s and then 40’s does not always work for me now.  My goal is to start these conversations and have fun in the process of doing so!

We will be featuring a different video of Dale’s each week, which you can view on the right sidebar. Here is the first one to get you started!

Feel free to contact Dale or check out her social media linked below! Show her some love, she has some great content. 🙂
