Review of a 30-Day Guide to Bolder Blogging + Giveaway!

I was recently given the opportunity to review a workbook designed to help bloggers retain more views. This workbook was written by Stephanie Shar of the Loudmouth Lifestyle Blog. Want to win a copy? See below!

30 Day Guide to Bolder Blogging by Stephanie Shar_ Zainey Laney

Stephanie not only does workbooks, but also e-courses designed to help your blog or business. I was interested in this because while I have a pretty nice youtube following, my blog (at least on this site) is still fairly new. Mostly research is one of those things I am doing constantly to stay ahead of the game and find new techniques.

What I liked about this workbook, is that it breaks things down into very easy steps by day. It starts from the simplest tasks (such as page content) and moves to how to maintain you blog and make a community, not just money.

Every workbook I have seen on this has a different take, and this one is no different. I just really like how honest and simple she puts this information, and how easy it is to follow. Also her emphasis is on reaching people, not just how to make money without connections.

If you are interested in purchasing this workbook, you can HERE for $9. HOWEVER, if you want to get one for free, simply comment below with your blog (or business) link and say why you need help! You can enter until Nov 8!

If you want further help with your blog, youtube, or business, consider joining our Google+ community Geeks and Beauties for support!

Revealed 3 Palette Review

It’s Palette Play! Make sure you are subscribing to get your palette and makeup reviews every week! Today we will be talking about the Revealed 3 palette by Coastal Scents. If you missed the Revealed 2 review  previously, be sure to check that out as well!

Revealed 3 _ Zainey Laney

This palette was used in a makeup look for Makeup & a Movie: Maze Runner 2 Scorch Trials. Here is the video if you missed it:

And now for the swatches!

Revealed 3 Palette _ Zainey Laney

The selection of colors is interesting. I don’t really go for the redder or darker shades in the palette however, it does create some pretty cool combinations.

Revealed 3 First Row 5 _ Zainey Laney

The first five in the row would make some good blending shades. The last one on the right is very creamy and yet powdery at the same time. It swiped across my hand very easily and was the most pigmented.

Revealed 3 Palette Top Row Last 5 _ Zainey Laney

Of these colors, the gold was the most pigmented. I did also like the second one to the right as well for a crease color. It blended very well and stayed in place.

Revealed 3 Bottom Row first 5 _ Zainey Laney

The bottom row has some of my favorite colors in the palette. However the last 2 of this set blend directly into my skin. Honestly you can’t even see it on my hand but they are very creamy and great to blend out a darker shade. The 3rd shade was the hardest to blend out and I had to rub it many times to get that color. It also had gold glitter in it which I was not a fan of.

Revealed 3 Bottom Row Last 5 _ Zainey Laney

I love these colors the most. They are pigmented, creamy, and provide a really nice fall color look when used together. This alone is why I would buy this palette.

Overall this palette may not be for everyone, but it does have a nice selection of colors.

Until Next Time,

Mini Book Reviews- What I read this month

It’s Novel Nerd!

Sometimes I do full reviews of books, but this time I have been reading so many, that I decided to do one post with a bunch of different books!

Here is what I have been reading this month:

The Bronte Plot by Katherine Reay _ Zainey Laney

Lucy has been living with a few secrets. Then she meets James and they start dating. James finds out her secrets and cannot deal with the ramifications. Through a chance meeting with James’ grandmother, Lucy discovers that who she is does not have to be based on the past, but can be found in literary England.

This book was an interesting read. The way it was written was at time over descriptive, and since I am sometimes a skimmer, I found myself doing that a few times. However, the plot is solid and if you are a fan of classic Bronte, Austin, and Dickens, you will appreciate this book.

The Bronte Plot is available on AMAZON in ebook and paperback formats. Also available on Google Play.

Release date: Nov 3

Press Summary:

When Lucy’s secret is unearthed, her world begins to crumble. But it may be the best thing that has ever happened to her.

Lucy Alling makes a living selling rare books, often taking suspicious measures to reach her goals. When her unorthodox methods are discovered, Lucy’s secret ruins her relationship with her boss and her boyfriend James—leaving Lucy in a heap of hurt, and trouble. Something has to change; shehas to change.

In a sudden turn of events, James’s wealthy grandmother Helen hires Lucy as a consultant for a London literary and antiques excursion. Lucy reluctantly agrees and soon discovers Helen holds secrets of her own. In fact, Helen understands Lucy’s predicament better than anyone else.

As the two travel across England, Lucy benefits from Helen’s wisdom, as Helen confronts the ghosts of her own past. Everything comes to a head at Haworth, home of the Brontë sisters, where Lucy is reminded of the sisters’ beloved heroines, who, with tenacity and resolution, endured—even in the midst of change.

Now Lucy must go back into her past in order to move forward. And while it may hold mistakes and regrets, she will prevail—if only she can step into the life that’s been waiting for her all along.

Wynn in Doubt by Emily Hemmer _ Zainey Laney

Wynn’s Grandmother has told her stories of her great grandmother, and how she abandoned her child to be a Rum runner.  When Wynn’s grandmother passes, Wynn finds a newspaper clipping that shares that there may be more to the story. Accompanied by her boyfriend Oliver, she starts off to find the real story, and along the way tries to find why she herself has been running.

This book was an interesting read for sure. I loved that the author keeps you reading by revealing information little by little.

Wynn in Doubt is available on AMAZON in ebook and paperback formats.

Release date: Oct 6

Press Summary:

Wynn Jeffries has wanderlust. Unfortunately, her life stalled somewhere between graduating from college and slinging drinks at the local dive bar. Stuck in a one-room apartment with no career, no boyfriend, no…life, she dreams of something more. Something amazing. Something like Oliver Reeves, her high school crush, who’s back in town and reminding Wynn of the way she used to be.

When a forgotten news clipping falls out of a book belonging to Wynn’s grandmother, a well-kept family secret is finally revealed. Is Wynn’s gypsy spirit the result of an overactive imagination, or did she inherit it from a woman so determined to live a big life, she gave up everything to have it?

Together, Wynn and Oliver attempt to put together the missing pieces of her family’s past and unravel the mystery behind her great-grandmother’s disappearance. But after so much time succumbing to fear and regret, can Wynn ditch her safe, routine life for the chance at an extraordinary future?

I will Marry George Clooney by Tracy Bloom _ Zainey Laney

Michelle has never revealed who the father of her daughter is to anyone. One small bet with her basically leads her to promise that she will marry George Clooney in order to keep her from making the same mistakes.

This was a really fun read. While you don’t ever truly believe that she will marry George, the hi jinks that ensue when she tries is very entertaining. This was definitely a must read!

I Will Marry George Clooney is available on AMAZON in ebook and paperback formats.

Release date: Oct 30

Press Summary:

A brand new very funny novel, from the bestselling author of No-One Ever Has Sex on a Tuesday and Single Woman Seeks Revenge.

There comes a time in every woman’s life when the only answer is to marry George Clooney.

For Michelle, that time is now.

Slogging her guts out in a chicken factory, whilst single-handedly bringing up a teenager who hates her, is far from the life that 36-year-old Michelle had planned.

But marrying the most eligible man on the planet by Christmas could change all that, couldn’t it?

Sometimes your only option is to dream the impossible – because you never know where it might take you…

This is a fun, completely fantastical novel featuring George Clooney, and has not been authorised or endorsed by the wondrous man himself.

Death Before Decaf by Caroline Fardig _ Zainey Laney

Those who love a good murder mystery will love this book. Juliet comes back to a cafe she used to work at in college and isn’t there a day when people begin getting killed off. Honestly, I can’t tell you enough that if you love mysteries, you will like this!

Death Before Decaf is available on AMAZON in ebook formats. Also available on Google Play.

Release date: Nov 17

Press Summary:

Perfect for fans of Janet Evanovich and Diane Mott Davidson, Caroline Fardig’s captivating new mystery novel takes readers behind the counter of a seemingly run-of-the-mill coffeehouse . . . where murder is brewing.

After her music career crashes and burns spectacularly, Juliet Langley is forced to turn to the only other business she knows: food service. Unfortunately, bad luck strikes yet again when her two-timing fiancé robs her blind and runs off with her best waitress. Flushing what’s left of her beloved café down the toilet with her failed engagement, Juliet packs up and moves back to her college stomping grounds in Nashville to manage an old friend’s coffeehouse. At first glance, it seems as though nothing’s changed at Java Jive. What could possibly go wrong? Only that the place is hemorrhaging money, the staff is in open revolt, and Juliet finds one unlucky employee dead in the dumpster out back before her first day is even over.

The corpse just so happens to belong to the cook who’d locked horns with Juliet over the finer points of the health code. Unimpressed with her management style, the other disgruntled employees are only too eager to spill the beans about her fiery temper to the detective on the case. Add to the mix a hunky stranger who’s asking way too many questions, and suddenly Juliet finds herself in some very hot water. If she can’t simmer down and sleuth her way to the real killer, she’s going to get burned.

Cinderella Shoes by Shonna Slayton _ Zainey Laney

I have never heard of a tail of Cinderella like this. Kate has been made the keeper of Cinderella’s dresses (ball gown, wedding gown) from the step-sister’s descendants. The shoes have been lost, but Kate believes that if she finds them, she will be able find her lost father. There was a previous book called Cinderella’s Dress which I did not read. There are some references in this book to that but you can still follow it if you haven’t read it.

Cinderella’s Shoes is available on AMAZON in ebook and paperback formats. Also available on Google Play.

Release date: Oct 6

Press Summary:

The war may be over, but Kate Allen’s life is still in upheaval. Not only has she discovered thatCinderella was real, but now she’s been made Keeper of the Wardrobe, her sole responsibility to protect Cinderella’s mystical dresses from the greed of the evil stepsisters’ modern descendants.

But Cinderella’s dresses are just the beginning. It turns out that the priceless glass slippers might actually exist, too, and they could hold the power to reunite lost loved ones like her father—missing in action since World War II ended. As Kate and her boyfriend, Johnny, embark on an adventure from New York to Italy and Poland in search of the mysterious slippers, they will be tested in ways they never imagined.

Because when you harness Cinderella’s magic, danger and evil are sure to follow…

Unfortunate Decisions of Dahlia Moss _ Zainey Laney

This is probably my favorite book I have read this month. Dahlia is unemployed, but she has been hired by the family of a dead Roleplayer to find his sword. If you are a fan of online gaming, geek or pop culture, this book is a must read. The characters are vibrant and interesting.

The Unfortunate Decisions of Dahlia Moss is available on AMAZON in ebook , hardcover, and audible formats. Also available on Google Play.

Release date: Oct 20

Press Summary:

For fans of The Guild, New Girl, Scott Pilgrim, Big Bang Theory, Veronica Mars, or anyone who has ever geeked out about something.

The odds of Dahlia successfully navigating adulthood are 3,720 to 1. But never tell her the odds.

Meet Dahlia Moss, the reigning queen of unfortunate decision-making in the St. Louis area. Unemployed broke, and on her last bowl of ramen, she’s not living her best life. But that’s all about to change.

Before Dahlia can make her life any messier on her own she’s offered a job. A job that she’s woefully under-qualified for. A job that will lead her to a murder, an MMORPG, and possibly a fella (or two?).

Turns out unfortunate decisions abound, and she’s just the girl to deal with them.

So that’s all the books for now. Until next time,

Bear with me…I’m involved.

Hello Zainey Friends!

Due to the fact that I am starting a new job in a week and my schedule is being twisted all around, I am finding it hard to get into my writing groove. Please bear with me for a few weeks while I get it all together. I probably won’t stop posting altogether but it just might be a little sparser.

In the meantime, feel free to visit me on Instagram where I post everyday and Youtube, where I still post a few times a week!

Andrea Bocelli- Cinema Album Review

I was given the opportunity to review Andrea Bocelli’s new album, Cinema, which comes out on October 23. My husband, who is a musicphile (is that  a word?) listened with me and we both have some amazing feedback.

For me personally, I like all types of music (except maybe rap and hiphop, it’s just not my thing). If I had to pick a genre it would be soundtracks, both broadway and movies/tv. This album falls nicely into that category as it is all music from classic films.

Just to highlight some of the songs:

  • Maria (West Side Story)- This was a great way to start the album. It is upbeat and the arrangement is unusual. The song is done in all English which is not the case for most of the music on the album. Don’t let that scare you though, it still sounds amazing!
  • E Piu ti Penso (Once Upon A Time in America)- Andrea partners with Ariana Grande. I knew the girl has some pipes but good gracious that girl can sing! This is probably one of my favorite songs on the album and a good reason to give it a listen.
  • Brucia La Terra (The Godfather)- This was one of my husbands favorites. The orchestra is smooth and most of all, you feel like you are wisked away to Italy. Or at least New York.

There are a few others that we thought were great, but these are just some of the more interesting ones. If you love to be transported to another time, and orchestral music takes you away, this album just hits the spot. Like I said before, most of the music is not in English but the singing is amazing, and if you know the words in English, just sing along.

Here is a sneak peek of a song from his album:

Cinema includes music from West Side Story, Doctor Zhivago, The Godfather, Evita, Gladiator and many more! Andrea Bocelli is probably one of the world’s most famous tenor and recently sang for the Pope during her visit to America!

Bocelli said the following: “With the album ‘Cinema,’ I’m fulfilling a wish that I’ve harboured for decades. I’ve never made a secret of my dream of bringing to life a recording project associated with soundtracks, as I truly believe that it’s an exceptional artistic treasure trove.

On October 23, Verve Records will release Cinema. On November 27th, Andrea will perform on PBS, singing many of the songs from this album arranged by David Foster.

I hope you will love this album as much as I do! The album will be available on Itunes and Amazon.

Disclaimer: I participated in the Andrea Bocelli “Cinema” album review program as a member of One2One Network. I was provided an album to review but all opinions are my own.

Revealed 2 Palette Review

It’s Palette Play! Make sure you are subscribing to get your palette and makeup reviews every week!

Today we will be talking about a cult classic, Revealed 2 by Coastal Scents. This is a very economical palette if you are looking for a lot of good quality colors for cheap. I have all 3 palettes in my collection and it is definitely worth it!

Revealed 2 Palette _ Zainey Laney Revealed 2 Palette Open _ Zainey Laney

Check out the video of a look I created with this palette!

The swatches below will give you an up close look at the product!

Revealed 2 Palette Top Left _ Zainey Laney

The first 5 shadows on the top are the lightest. The first couple are beautiful and blend nicely. You can tell the 4th one is a little powdery but it is a beautiful color. There are so many great bases and highlighters here!

Revealed 2 Palette Top Right _ Zainey Laney

These are some more neutral tones. The last one on the right is gorgeous and I love using that on my lid over a darker color. I am telling you, it will change your life!

Revealed 2 Palette Bottom Left _ Zainey Laney

These are some of my most favorite in the palette and can be used for a dozen different combinations. They are the creamiest and look the best on everyone.

Revealed 2 Palette Bottom Right _ Zainey Laney

Lastly, these colors can be used to make an amazing smokey eye or as a shadow liner. The last one is probably the hardest to build up in the whole palette but it blends and mixes so amazing with the lighter colors that I don’t care about that.

Overall this palette is one of my favorites and I reach for it again and again. Do yourself a favor and splurge.

Until Next time,

Keep Calm and Stay Zainey _ Zainey Laney

I am starting to do categories for things now, so you should see these every time I post!!!

The Imposter By Suzanne Woods Fisher Book Review

It’s Novel Nerd!

The book I read last week was called The Imposter by Suzanne Woods Fisher. It falls into the Drama Fiction category.

The Imposter by Suzanne Woods Fisher _ Zainey Laney

I read quite a few dramas, and while it is not my favorite category (that would be chic-lit or scifi/ suspense) it is a great way to pass the time and not tax your brain.

The Imposter is a pretty quick and easy read, so if you like quiet time with a cup of tea, this is a book for you!

What I liked about this book is that even though it takes place in an amish community, there are members of the church that are open to change and do not judge someone for their decisions. It is a book about love: platonic and romantic. And it really makes you think about what is important in life? Is it your core moral values or your love for the people around you? How should we really live to show people how we care? Can Imposters be friends? Can your friends be imposters? Yep there are a lot of questions, but this book gives their take on the answers.

The Imposter is available on AMAZON in ebook, paperback, and Hardcover formats. Also available on Google Play.

Release date: Oct 6

Press Summary:

A heart once deceived should not be easily fooled again . . .

Katrina Stoltzfus thought she had life and love all figured out: she was going to marry John and live happily ever after. But as her plans crumble before her eyes, she struggles to face an uncertain future. When a widow asks for help starting a new business, Katrina quickly agrees. She needs time to heal her broken heart, to untangle her messy life, to find a purpose.

What she doesn’t need is attention from Andy Miller, a farmhand who arrives at the widow’s farm just when help is most needed–and who always seems to say the right thing and be in the right place, at the right time. Is Andy for real or too good to be true? She’s been deceived once before, and she isn’t planning on experiencing it again.

Bestselling author Suzanne Woods Fisher invites you back to Stoney Ridge for a tale of love, uncertainty, and trusting God to write your story.
